Nalbandian upsets Federer in Madrid

David Nalbandian beat Roger Federer at the Madrid Masters to claim his first Masters series title.

The first set went as I would have expected with Federer running away with a 6-1 victory and it looked like it was another title in the bag for the world number 1.

Things changed suddenly though in the second set and unforced errors on the part of Federer also helped Nalbandian win the last two sets and inflict Federer's seventh defeat of the year.

On the way to the final unseeded Nalbandian beat world numbers two and three Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic and so in the end he beat the top three players to get the Madrid crown.

I hope this will be turning point for Nalbandian who is now outside top 20 players and yet last year he was mostly in the top ten but for Federer I think its just a blip.
